Chip and PIN has more fraud controls than swiping your card, also known as ‘magstripe’. So if you are offered the option to do either, always select chip and PIN.

Occasionally, especially in Europe, merchants may attempt contactless and PIN. Even though you're entering your PIN the £30 contactless limit will still apply. In these circumstances always insert your card into the machine and enter your PIN to complete a transaction over this amount.
